Therapy for teens who are struggling & families who want a clearer path forward
I work with teens navigating anxiety, emotional ups and downs, disconnection, and low motivation, and help families move from uncertainty to a more grounded, steady direction.
I’m a licensed clinical social worker with over a decade of experience working with teens and young adults across a range of settings, from wilderness therapy to outpatient care.
I genuinely enjoy working with teens. It’s a stage of life that can feel confusing, overwhelming, and at times isolating, even when things might look fine on the outside.
If you’re a teen, my goal is to create a space where you don’t feel judged or analyzed, but actually understood and empowered.
And if you’re a parent, I work to help you better understand what your teen is going through and how to support them in a way that’s actually helpful.
Hi, I’m Jessica Garbett
My Approach
My approach is rooted in interpersonal neurobiology, attachment, and embodiment. I see the teen years as a pivotal time when a young person’s sense of self and their place in the world are still taking shape. In our work together, I help teens make sense of what they’re feeling, feel more connected to themselves, and navigate relationships and challenges in a way that feels more grounded and authentically them.
Autonomy & Responsiblity
I support teens in navigating the shift toward greater autonomy and responsibility, helping them build independence while making more grounded, intentional decisions.
Social Pressure & Identity
Teens face constant social pressure while their sense of identity is still forming. I help them build a stronger, more grounded sense of self that isn’t defined by others.
Emotions & Overwhelm
Emotions can feel intense and overwhelming during the teen years. I help teens better understand what they’re feeling and build the tools to navigate those emotions with more clarity and stability..
Therapy Modalities I utilize and Why:
-
I utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) because it helps teens understand themselves in a more compassionate and non-judgmental way. Instead of seeing their thoughts or behaviors as problems, we explore the different “parts” of them that are trying to help or protect. This often creates more clarity, self-understanding, and a greater sense of internal stability.
-
I incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), which focuses on holding two things at once. Teens can be doing the best they can and still need to grow. They can feel strong emotions and learn how to manage them. This “both/and” approach helps teens build skills while also feeling understood and accepted.
-
I use EMDR when something feels hard to move past, even when it’s been talked about. It helps the brain process experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity, so teens can feel less stuck and more able to move forward.
-
I incorporate experiential approaches such as psychodrama and art to help teens express and work through what’s often hard to put into words. These approaches create opportunities for deeper insight, emotional processing, and meaningful change.
Payment & Insurance
I am a private-pay provider and do not bill insurance directly. This allows for greater flexibility, privacy, and a more individualized approach to care.
If you have out-of-network benefits, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. I recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your specific coverage.
Rate: $165/session (Includes on-going check-in calls with parents)
